St.John’s Wort Extract is the dried aerial part extract of Hypericum perforatum L. It is a brownish black free flowing powder with characteristic aroma and taste. Widely used in medicine and health care products.
St.John’s Wort is perennial herbs, 20~60cm tall with yellow flowers, flowering in July-August and fruiting in September-October. Usually it can be harvested twice a year, and the first crop is harvested in the early flowering period in July. The second crop was harvested in mid to late October. Generally, the quality is the best when the bud is about to open, and the content of hypericin is the highest at the full flowering stage, but the quality decreases after flowering.It grows in Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Xinjiang, Shandong, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan and Guizhou provinces of China. It also grows in Southern Europe, Cyprus, northwest Africa, the Near East, Central Asia, India to Mongolia and Russia. It grows at an altitude of 500-2100 meters on hillsides, roadsides, grasslands, underwoods and rivers.
Hypericin is the extract of Hypericum perforatum, which was first isolated from the garcinaceae plant Hypericum perforatum in 1957. It belongs to dianthrone compounds and is the most bioactive substance in Hypericum perforatum.
